Like Father, Like Child? Paternal Age at Birth and Offspring’s Facial Asymmetry and Distinctiveness

چکیده
Paternal age at birth, a potential proxy of mutation load transmitted to the offspring, has previously been related offspring’s health, biological condition and reproductive potential. As higher facial asymmetry distinctiveness serve as putative markers lower genetic quality an individual, we hypothesize that more advanced paternal birth will be children’s levels distinctiveness. To best our knowledge, this is first study evaluating link between in offspring. Based on archived photographs 159 children born within 47 Polish families, have conducted geometric morphometric measurements calculated The relationship features was explored with use Bayesian Linear Mixed-effects Models, controlling for sex, order maternal child’s birth. No associations or were found. lack such might result potentially insufficient influence newly accumulated mutations affecting phenotype importance (prenatal) postnatal environments shaping features.

Exposing male mice to nicotine or cocaine enables their male offspring to cope with high doses of either, which suggests that such paternal effects are generic, rather than being a response to a specific type of stress.

Pelger-Huet anomaly is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterized by pince-nez appearance of the nuclei of the neutrophils. This is caused by failure of nuclear segmentation due to genetic defect in the LBR (laminin B-receptor) on the chromosome 1q41-43. Heterozygotes have dumbbell-shaped or hyposegmented neutrophils with coarse chromatin and normal granules. Homozygotes have neutrophils ...

The natural environment is in a state of constant flux and living organisms are perpetually challenged to adapt to these changes. Yet the mechanisms of adaptation, which lead to the development of new characteristics or behaviours, have troubled philosophers and scientists since the days of ancient Greece. In fact, it was not until 1859, when Charles Darwin (1809– 1882) published The Origin of ...

متن کاملLike Father , Like Son : Inheriting and Bequeathing
Empirical evidence suggests that parents who have themselves inherited from their own parents are more likely to leave an estate to their children even after controlling for income, wealth and education. This implies an indirect reciprocal behavior between three generations by transmitting the attitude towards bequeathing from one generation to the next. We incorporate such an intergenerational...
